Some 7 miles north-east of Clonmel is Slievenamon (the mountain of the women) which is a conical hill 2,368 ft. high. It is a lovely climb and is best accessed via  Kilcash (off the N76 travelling from Clonmel to Kilkenny).  St. Patrick’s Well is a healthy walk west of Clonmel town and visitors should be sure to see this place that commemorates Ireland’s national apostle who is said to have preached there.  Tipperary boasts an enormous range of walks to suit everyone. The widely contrasting countryside is criss-crossed with byways, forest paths, nature trails, country lanes and minor roads, all leading to splendid isolation in the rugged terrain of the Galtee Mountains, Comeragh Mountains, Knockmealdown Mountains and Slievenamon. Tipperary is a unique walking destination.

Walk Ireland have developed and highlighted a number of walks graded in difficulty from easy to hard.  Detailed routes can be found on the Walk Ireland website. The Tipperary Heritage Trail is a fifty six kilometre long distance route.  It has been divided into five sections and takes in such breath taking sites as The Vee and Bay Lough. The Suir Valley and Knockmealdown route offers beautiful scenic walks encountering waterfalls, streams and heathers along the way.  The Knockmealdowns offer a fine variety of easy walks over gentle hills.  Each year the area plays host to the Nire Valley Annual Walking Festival on the second weekend of October.
